A friend of mine opened his wife’s underwear drawer and picked up a silk paper wrapped package: ’This, – he said – isn’t any ordinary package.’ He unwrapped the box and stared at both the silk paper and the box. ’She got this the first time we went to New York, 8 or 9 years ago. She has never put it on , was saving it for a special occasion. Well, I guess this is it.’

Always do the things you fear the most. Courage is an acquired taste, like caviar.
I have accepted fear as a part of life – specifically the fear of change… I have gone ahead despite the pounding in the heart that says: turn back.
Take your life in your own hands, and what happens? A terrible thing: no one to blame.
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.
One day a small opening appeared.
He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours
as it struggled to squeeze its body through the tiny hole.
Then it stopped, as if it couldn’t go further. [read the rest of this entry...]
Fact 1: As each goose flaps its wings it creates an “uplift” for the birds that follow. By flying in a “V” formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.
Lesson 1: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another. [read the rest of this entry...]
The Simple Secret to Stop Procrastination – there’s an old saying that says…
“If the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning is eat a live frog, then nothing worse can happen for the rest of the day!”
Brian Tracy says that your “frog” should be the most difficult item on your things to do list, the one you’re most likely to procrastinate on; because, if you eat that first, it’ll give you energy and momentum for the rest of the day. But, if you don’t…and let him sit there on the plate and stare at you while you do a hundred unimportant things, it can drain your energy and you won’t even know it.
Sixteen years ago I learned an important life lesson, in the back of a New York City taxi cab. I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. [read the rest of this entry...]
One day an expert in time management was speaking to a group of business students and, to drive home a point, used an illustration those students will never forget. As he stood in front of the group of high powered overachievers he said, “Okay, time for a quiz.”
Can You Create a New Habit in 21 Days?
“Fake it ’til you make it.” We’ve all heard the cliche for approaching something that seems out of reach. There may be some method to the madness of that approach. But have you ever given much thought to what it takes to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be when it comes to eliminating old habits and forming new ones? Success is habitual. [read the rest of this entry...]

A man was lost while driving through the country. As he tried to reach for the map, he accidentally drove off the road into a ditch. Though he wasn’t injured, his car was stuck deep in the mud. So the man walked to a nearby farm to ask for help. ”Warwick can get you out of that ditch,” said the farmer, pointing to an old mule standing in a field. The man looked at the decrepit old mule and looked at the farmer who just stood there repeating, “Yep, old Warwick can do the job.” [read the rest of this entry...]

Barbara Glanz is a speaker and author. A few years ago, she spoke at a convention for a large grocery chain with over 3,000 people attending. Her talk was on creating memories for the customers so they would want to come back. At the end of her speech, she gave out her email address and phone number, and said, “If you have any great service stories, I’d like to hear them.” Well, about a month later, Barbara gets a call from a young man who introduces himself as Johnny.

George Bernard Shaw said, “People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, they make them.” Well, it’s pretty apparent, isn’t it? And every person who discovered this believed (for a while) that he was the first one to work it out. We become what we think about. Conversely, the person who has no goal, who doesn’t know where he’s going, and whose thoughts must therefore be thoughts of confusion, anxiety and worry – his life becomes one of frustration, fear, anxiety and worry. And if he thinks about nothing… he becomes nothing. [read the rest of this entry...]
My friend, Bob Danzig, has an amazing story. Simple words of appreciation and encouragement changed his life. Bob was in five foster homes during his youth, and said he spent his childhood trying to find someone to love and appreciate him. When he was nine years old, he had a new social worker. He said after she had done all the paperwork to move him to yet another foster home, she sat him down, looked him directly in the eyes, and said, “Bobby, I want you to always remember these words: YOU ARE WORTHWHILE!”

We know we need to talk to people, so let’s look at a situation we all find ourselves in when we attempt to speak with someone we don’t know. Place and time: an elevator in a professional office building, late afternoon. You get on the elevator, push the button for your floor, and watch the numbered lights flick on as you climb. What’s on your mind? Things you need to take care of at work before 5pm; what you might have for dinner that night; weekend plans. Then suddenly the elevator stops. It’s not your floor. The doors slide open and there is a woman: “Going up?” she asks, as she steps in. You smile politely and nod. She pushes the button for her floor, and the doors begin to close.

In the race to be better or best, we sometimes lose sight of just being. And just being, just soaking in and savoring a beautiful moment, can provide some of life’s greatest pleasures. A crackling fire on a cold winter night, a good book, a love letter from your spouse a spectacular sunset, a great meal, or a timeless moment with your child or a friend…these moments, if we stop long enough to enjoy, are the essence of life. I love to fish, especially for large-mouth bass. About three years ago, I was watching television late one night and got this crazy notion to go fishing in the lake behind my house.
